When we were discussing a what to call the friendship we now call emergent we discussed the meaning of the word.
Of the many uses and definitions is the idea of Emergent growth – The growth in a forest that is under the surface and has not yet come through. The significance of this growth is that while not yet recognizable to the casual observer, it is the future of the forest. If there is limited Emergent growth the future of the forest is in jeopardy.
Today I was doing some looking at the meaning of and use of my last name – Pagitt – in history. Ancestors and that sort of thing.
I came across the first definition I have ever seen of Pagitt.
A strange little site that listed the Neologism Profile – the listed definition is “An area where many kinds of non-native trees are close together, esp. a town like that.”
Maybe I have been destined to all that garden, tree, forest metaphor business.
On another strange name note – People often miss say my first name, strange for a simple name like Doug. When this happens they always call me the same wrong name – Greg.
This happened last week when I was with Bob Carlton. We were just sitting there chatting and he said, “So Greg, I was thinking…”
What is strange is not only that the only name I am miss called is Greg, but Greg was the name my parents named me for the first few days of my life before changing it to Doug at the request of my aunt.

it's even funnier that it was bob c that lost your name! being mr network and all!
what could we rename him...? but bob just seems right ...
i will say that i have to rummage thru my mental cd when shelley calls you duke...i have to remember that she's refering to you, not john wayne!

and by the way...lilly is often willy, or more often libby and lewin is so many things it would be scary to write them.

i think thats odd, because i have a similar experience.
people are always mis-calling me "Rachel" instead of "April."
